Plants cannot survive in total darkness. All plants, with the exception of a few that live on other organisms, use a process called photosynthesis to obtain the energy they need.
I was about to ask, since they get energy from light, what if there is a storm and the skies are really dark for them to get at daytime for many days, can they still get that energy from a dim light without the sun’s rays or bright sky?
Algaes can reduce the amount of oxygen a bloom produces without reducing its nighttime oxygen demand. Extremely calm or cloudy days may reduce photosynthesis and oxygen production. This includes storms that makes the skies dark.
