Do coral reefs produce oxygen?

While coral reefs only cover 0.0025 percent of the oceanic floor, they generate half of Earth’s oxygen and absorb nearly one-third of the carbon dioxide generated from burning fossil fuels.

That is interesting. Generating almost half of Earth oxygen. I thought it just the plants and the atmosphere?

Coral reefs also has a process of photosynthesis. Photosynthetic algae, called zooxanthellae, live within the tissues of reef-building corals and provide them with oxygen and the products of photosynthesis, including glucose and amino acids.
