A tree’s girth can be used to estimate its age because a tree’s girth increases by 2.5cm every year. Simply take a measurement around the tree’s trunk (girth) at a distance of roughly 1 meter from the ground. Make sure your measurements are accurate to the millimetre. Then double the girth by 2.5 to get a year’s age.
