New York crimes increased!

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, July 21) — The Philippine Consulate General in New York has advised the Filipino community to remain vigilant after the city’s police department recorded a 37% increase in major crimes citywide.
“Kababayan[s] are reminded to be situationally aware at all times when outside their residences and to take the necessary precautions to avoid becoming a victim of crime,” the consulate said in an advisory late Wednesday.

It also shared that the latest statistics released by the New York City Police Department show that grand larceny was up 49%, grand larceny auto is at 46.2%, robbery at 39.2%, and burglary at 32.9%.
Transit and hate crimes have also increased at 55.5% and 12.6%.
Just less than a week ago, the consulate said a Filipino tourist from Cebu suffered facial injuries after being assaulted.
Filipino lawyer Jal Laylo, meanwhile, died in a random shooting in Philadelphia in June.
Consul General Elmer Cato admitted that there has been a rise in gun violence in major cities in the United States, including New York and Philadelphia.
