The Panama hat is totally handcrafted in Ecuador. Due to the huge shipment of these hats from Ecuador to Panama during the 19th century, encouraged by Manuel Alfaro y Gonzalez and his wife during the construction of the Panama Canal, they became known as “Panama hats.”
