A musical instrument is a device that produces musical sounds and has been manufactured or adapted to do so. A musical instrument is, in theory, any thing that produces sound. However, an object becomes a musical instrument only when it is employed for that purpose. A musician who plays an instrument is known as an instrumentalist.
