Jake LaMotta-Although the film failed to win an Academy Award in any category, Robert De Niro won his first acting award. De Niro had to acquire 60 pounds for the character of a much older LaMotta. The film’s editor, Thelma Schoonmaker, was also nominated for an Academy Award.
